Finding The Right Linen Cabinet For Bathroom, Bedroom, Walk-in Closet Or Laundry Room

Keep towels and linen in a linen cabinet for convenience in the bathroom.

When it comes to home furniture traditions can play an important part. While some new items of furniture arrive on the scene such as multimedia storage cabinets, others just go on as they are and have been for centuries such as the dressing table or chest of drawers. There is yet another group though and that is furniture that has evolved new uses through the years, such as the French armoire and the linen cabinet. In fact one of the ways the armoire has developed is actually as a linen armoire.

If you look at antique and reproduction linen cabinets you will find them as bulky solid wood cabinets, free standing in the bedroom, hallway or landing, and used for storing table linen or bed linen. Nowadays the linen cabinet may still reproduce its original intent, design and appearance; on the other hand it might be far more modern looking, in various wood composites and contemporary finishes, and even used as a utility storage cabinet or specifically for towels in the bathroom as a bathroom linen cabinet. Additionally you may see one described not as a cabinet but as a linen armoire or closet.

If you search for a linen cabinet you will no doubt find that many are designed as bathroom linen cabinets; then you might stand there in the store or look at the screen online and think: “I could use that for storage in the bedroom” or any other room for that matter. Although intended for towels and other linens such cabinets are potentially quite versatile in their use, both inside the bathroom and elsewhere.

Due to the need for cabinet doors you will find mostly that a linen cabinet will be made of wood, although glass doors are sometimes used on a wood or metal frame. Popular brands and manufacturers include Hampton Bay, Heirloom, Kendall, Dexter, Craftsman, Winslow and Organize it All. You need not worry about budget too much as linen cabinets are generally available for a low price under $200 up to $1000 and more depending on quality. However most of those you’ll find online are in the $300 to $700 range so modest in price.

Making The Most Of Linen Cabinets In Bathroom, Bedroom, Laundry Room And Closet

Sometimes a type of storage unit can be given a specific name which actually narrows its potential use in the eyes of a buyer. An example is the kids closet that will no doubt get used for toys as well as clothing; then there are linen cabinets which can be used for towels in the bathroom, and the bathroom linen cabinet which can store a stack of toilet rolls and not just towels. You will find other examples scattered around any home.

Often though it is the need for towel storage that prompts the desire for linen cabinets in the bathroom, while the bed linen may inspire the purchase of a linen cabinet for the bedroom; then there is the table linen cabinet for the dining room. It is therefore quite easy to justify three different linen cabinets in a home, especially a large home.

When all is said and done most linen cabinets will make useful storage furniture for things other than linen so can be used as utility cabinets if you so desire. However it is linen storage we are about here and a can be used to store linen as intended but then placed pretty much anywhere in the home. Most normally though linen cabinets will be sites in a bedroom, bathroom, walk-in closet or laundry room. Where you intend to site the cabinet will to a large extent dictate how you will want the linen cabinet to look.

Linen cabinets can be free standing or wall mounted and in a confined space such as in a bathroom, wall mounted linen storage can be a good idea. Fitting flush to the wall or even recessed, the wall mounted cabinets can save valuable space compared to those which are free standing. In the bathroom it is not uncommon to find a linen cabinet as part of a matching set; this can look very smart when you have a cabinet for the bath towels sited next to a matching vanity for example. In fact if you are planning a new bathroom I would suggest making sure that a linen cabinet is part of the collection you choose.
